Driving presence within an organisation will rapidly reduce the mean
time to resolution. Staff are able to get answers to their questions
without the need to play ‘telephone tag’ or wait for an e-mail response.
In many cases, this has driven the sole ROI for a Microsoft Lync
deployment. For example, if staff make and respond to 2-3 voicemails
each day, this on average would waste 10-15 minutes per employee, per
day. If you multiple the time wasted, it amounts to almost 7 days over
the course of a year which could have been saved through presence!
Instant messaging gives users a choice in communication modalities.
In many organisations, users see Instant Messaging as their first choice
in communication (above and beyond email). Instant messaging gives
users an immediate response allowing them drive quicker outcomes.
Instant Messaging will not only save time, but will drive down the
number of emails being sent within an environment. Simple queries can be
dealt with instantly! No more waiting for responses to emails!
Web conferencing extends the communication platform to the outside or
public arena. Lync allows for instant collaboration to occur between
anybody with an internet connection or handheld device. Lync is also
used inside of the organisation for allowing users to meet inside a
‘virtual space’. There would be no need to book a meeting room or
resources. Users simply send an invitation and join at their PC.
Meetings can be archived and recorded for compliance and quality
assurance. Another aspect of Lync allows for extended user training to
be recorded and saved centrally.
Audio / Video Conferencing
Audio / Video Conferencing allows users to share and collaborate with
the rich modality of video. Microsoft Lync will support High Definition
video allowing users to be brought close together without the need to
travel. Microsoft also has a range of HD cameras at entry level pricing
to enable this feature enterprise wide. Boardroom-based solutions are
also catered for within the solution through the use of the CX5000
roundtable Conferencing device and HDX units.
Desktop sharing capabilities
Desktop Sharing is seen as one of the most widely used features
within Lync. With the click of a button, users are able to share their
desktop in support, collaboration or presentation sessions. Users are
able to participate anywhere in the world and present with audio, video,
instant messaging and desktop sharing.
Federation allows for you to join communications together with other
organisations. It supports the full collaboration experience between
companies using Microsoft Lync. This is done securely through SSL
certificates and can be granted to specific users. The power of
federation is in the ability for you to connect with your customers and
partners instantly and share in a rich collaboration experience.
External user access (VPN less)
External Access will give your users instant access to their
communications anywhere in the world. Without the need to VPN into the
environment users will securely connect into the Microsoft Lync 2010
infrastructure and have access to all of their communications.
